Welcome to Commander, Naval Beach Group (NBG) 2! NBG-2 provides ship-to-shore movement support with its five subordinate units. The group also functions as ESG-2's executive agent for Maritime Preposition Forces (MPF) operations and serves as Commander Maritime Preposition Forces (CMPF) when required. The principle behind MPF is simply to support sustained amphibious operations ashore. Approximately 90-95% of the needed war-fighting equipment that has to be shipped into a theater of war is transported by ships reporting to NBG-2. The U.S. has three maritime pre-positioned squadrons with U.S. Marine Corps equipment pre-positioned worldwide. These squadrons are comprised of five MPF ships each and will outfit a Marine Expeditionary Brigade (MEB) with approximately 18,000 Marines.
