Fleet Command Master Chief Jason Avin was born in Queens, New York and raised on Long Island. He graduated from General Douglas Macarthur High School in 1993 and enlisted in the Navy in 1996. He graduated from the United States Navy Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 174), the Command Master Chief / Chief of the Boat Leadership Course, Executive Leader Symposium, Navy Senior Leader Seminar, and the Keystone course at National Defense University
Master Chief Avin’s sea duty assignments include USS Boston (SSN 703), USS Louisville (SSN 724), USS Charlotte (SSN 766), USS Springfield (SSN 761), and USS Dallas (SSN 700).
In August 2013, he reported to USS Annapolis (SSN 760) as the Chief of the Boat (COB). During his COB tour, Annapolis earned the 2014 Commander, Submarine Development Squadron 12 Battle "E" and the 2014 and 2015 Retention Excellence awards.
His shore duty assignments include command Master Training Specialist Coordinator at Naval Submarine School, Communications Assistant at Submarine Development Squadron 12, Command Master Chief of Submarine Squadron 12, Director of the Senior Enlisted Academy, and most recently as the Force Master Chief for Commander Submarine Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet
Master Chief Avin is currently the Fleet Command Master Chief for Commander, U. S Second Fleet.
Master Chief Avin's personal awards include the Legion of Merit (two awards), Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards), and various unit citations.
