Master Chief Garrow is a native of Wilmington, NC and a graduate of John T. Hoggard High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on November 19, 1990 at Raleigh, NC. He completed Basic Training and went on to attend Quartermaster “A” school in Orlando Fl.
Master Chief Garrow is married with four children, daughter Morgan (26), daughter Emily (24), son Brayden (21) and son Mason (8). Master Chief Garrow and his family reside in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
He graduated from the U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy in Newport, R.I. (Class 152 Khaki) in 2010 and the Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat Course (Class 160) in 2016. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Administrative Management and Psychology as well as a Certificate in Homeland Security from Excelsior College.
He has served at sea in USS VIRGINIA (CGN 38), USS JOHN HANCOCK (DD 981), USS KINGFISHER (MHC-56), and RIVERINE SQUADRON ONE where he deployed twice in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and earned NEC’s 90IE and 90CS. His final tour as a leading Quartermaster was on USS STOUT (DDG-55) as the Assistant Navigator. He has served as the CMC of VAW-121 (Bluetails), CVW-8 (Team Factory) and is currently serving as the Command Master Chief of Carrier Strike Group TWELVE.
Shore assignments include NAVHOSP CAMP LEJEUNE where he was assigned as a Naval Drug and Alcohol Counselor earning NEC 9519, Military Sealift Command as Operations Department LCPO and Afloat Training Group Atlantic where he earned NEC 9502 and was designated as an Afloat Training Specialist (ATS).
Master Chief Garrow has earned the Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist (ESWS) qualification, Expeditionary Warfare (EXW) qualification, Air Warfare (EAWS) qualification and qualifies to wear the Enlisted Small Boat pin. His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (7 awards), Navy achievement Medal (3 awards), Good Conduct Medal (9 awards), and various other unit and campaign awards.
