ACCM (AW/SW/IDW) Ronald J. Young is the Command Senior Enlisted Leader of TACRON-21. He was born in Michigan and he enlisted in the United States Navy in September 1993 on the Delayed Entry Program and reported for active duty to Recruit Training Command (RTC), Great Lake, Illinois on June 23, 1994.
Upon graduation from RTC, he reported to Naval Air Technical Training Center (NATTC) Millington, Tennessee in August 1994 for Air Traffic Control “A” School. Upon graduation in December 1994, he reported to the Navy’s first nuclear powered aircraft carrier the Big “E” USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65) in Norfolk, Virginia. During his tour, he advanced to the rank of Second Class Petty Officer, obtained his Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist designation, and deployed for the first time to the Mediterranean and Arabian Gulf in 1996, in support of Operations Southern Watch and Desert Strike.
In February of 1998, he received orders to the master jet base, Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach, Virginia where he qualified Tower Supervisor and advanced to First Class Petty Officer.
In March of 2003, he reported for the second time to the USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65) in Norfolk, Virginia where he qualified Carrier Air Traffic Controller Center (CATCC) Supervisor, received his Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist designation and completed his second Mediterranean and Arabian Gulf deployment in support of Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom.
In May 2006, he completed Journeyman Instructor Training and reported to NATTC Pensacola, Florida. During his tenure as a Master Training Specialist, he instructed over 1,300 Navy, Marine Corps, and Foreign National controllers in Tower, Radar, and CATCC courses. In 2009, he advanced to Chief Petty Officer and earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University.
In May 2011, he reported to Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida the “Cradle of Naval Aviation” and home to the Navy Flight Demonstration Team Blue Angels. As the Tower and Leading Chief Petty Officer, he qualified Facility Watch Supervisor.
In May 2013, he transferred to the USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73) in Yokosuka, Japan as the Operations Control Division Leading Chief Petty Officer and CATCC Watch Officer. In 2014, he advanced to Senior Chief Petty Officer. He led the only CATCC team in the fleet that operates both at sea and ashore at IWO TO (formally known as Iwo Jima Island). In August of 2015, the USS GEORGE WASHINGTON crew sailed the ship to San Diego, California and was part of the first ever tri-carrier hull/crew/homeport change between the USS RONALD REAGAN (CVN 76) and USS THEORDORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71). During his tenure, the USS GEORGE WASHINGTON received three consecutive Battle “E” awards and he earned his Enlisted Information Dominance Warfare designation.
In February 2018, he reported to Djibouti, Africa for a one-year Individual Augmentee (IA) assignment as the Air Traffic Control Facility Officer of the countries only international airport. After completion of his IA assignment, he returned to FACSFAC, San Diego.
Master Chief Young reported to TACRON-21 in August 2020.
Master Chief Young’s personal awards include five Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, various unit awards and campaign medals.
