CMDCM Jans Valdespou
Command Master Chief, USS Wasp (LHD 1)

CMDCM Jans Valdespou is a native of Havana, Cuba and enlisted in the Navy from Hialeah, Florida. He attended Recruit Training Command (RTC) in 1995 in Great Lakes, Illinois, and graduated EM "A" School in 1996. He is a graduate of Central Texas College where he received an Associate's Degree of General Studies in 2007.
His assignments at sea include: Electrical Division aboard USS Elrod (FFG 55), Motor Rewind Shop in Repair Department aboard USS Emory S. Land (AS 39) stationed in La Maddalena, Italy, Electrical Division LCPO and Engineering Department LCPO aboard USS Anzio (CG 68), and ship's Maintenance Material Manager (3MC) and Engineering Department LCPO aboard USS Winston S. Churchill (DDG 81). During these operational tours, Master Chief Valdespou completed deployments to the 5th and 6th fleet areas of responsibility.
Master Chief Valdespou was selected into the Senior Enlisted Leader Program in 2018, following up with a tour as Senior Enlisted Leader aboard USS Constitution in Boston, Massachusetts and Command Master Chief aboard USS PORTER (DDG 78) in Rota, Spain where he completed multiple patrols to the 6th Fleet AOR.
His shore assignments include: Naval Reserve Center Clearwater, Florida as Reserve Pay and Training Petty Officer, RTC, Great Lakes, Illinois as a Recruit Division Commander, Recruit Division Commander “C” school instructor, and Afloat Training Group (ATG) Norfolk, Virginia as Gas Turbine Division LCPO and as a member of various engineering training and assessment teams.
Master Chief Valdespou assumed his current duties as CMC of USS Wasp (LHD 1) in December 2023.
Master Chief Valdespou's personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (five awards) and various unit and campaign awards.
