Commander Dan Hollingshead enlisted in the Navy in 1999 as a nuclear operator. After receiving his B.S. in Human Resource Management from The New School University, he was commissioned October 2004 via Officer Candidate School. He received his Masters Degree from Old Dominion University in 2010.
At-Sea assignments include Auxiliary Officer in USS HOWARD (DDG 83), Officer-In-Charge in Maritime Expeditionary Boat Detachment 411, Chief Engineer in USS FORT MCHENRY (LSD 43), Chief Engineer in USS MESA VERDE (LPD 19), and Executive Officer in USS NEW YORK (LPD 21).
Shore-duty assignments include Combat Systems Officer (N-81) Afloat Training Group Middle Pacific, Training Liaison Officer and Cruise Missile Team Lead Afloat Training Group Norfolk, Weapons Officer Center for Surface Combat Systems Detachment Dam Neck, Nuclear Engineering Laboratory Technician instructor NPTU Ballston Spa and Executive Officer for Afloat Training Group Mayport.
In June 2023, CDR Hollingshead reported to Beachmaster Unit TWO as the Executive Officer.
Commander Hollingshead’s personal awards include a Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (4), and Navy Achievement Medal (2), and varied service and campaign awards.
