Captain Martin Robertson, originally from Erie, Pennsylvania, enlisted in the Navy in 1988 and was commissioned in 1998. 

A career Surface Warfare Officer, he commanded USS Princeton (CG 59) and USS Bainbridge (DDG 96) and was Executive Officer of USS Rentz (FFG 46). His other sea duty assignments include service aboard USS Cowpens (CG 63), USS Ross (DDG 71), USS Pioneer (MCM 9), USS Normandy (CG 60), USS Nicholas (FFG 47) and USS Wainwright (CG 28).

Ashore he served as the Executive Assistant to the Deputy Under Secretary of the Navy, Officer in Charge of the Center for Surface Combat Systems Detachment Mayport, Battle Watch Captain and Action Officer at U.S. Fleet Forces Command and CTF 80, Maritime Operations Staff Officer at Allied Joint Force Command Naples, and CE Division Leading Petty Officer at Surface Combat Systems Center Wallops Island.

He earned a Master of Arts Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies with a Graduate Certificate in Leadership and Ethics from the Naval War College, Master of Arts Degree in Military Studies and Operational Art from American Military University, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Old Dominion University.

His awards include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and various unit and campaign awards.

Captain Robertson assumed his current duties as Commodore, Amphibious Squadron Eight in March 2023.
