CAPT Concannon, a native of Keokuk, IA, enlisted in the Navy as a Machinist Mate (nuclear) in January 1988.  His completed his undergraduate education and was commissioned at The Citadel in 1996 and completed his graduate work in 2009 at the USMC Command and General Staff College.

At sea, CAPT Concannon has completed afloat tours in USS DANIEL BOONE (SSBN 629) as a nuclear-trained Machinist Mate, in USS VICKSBURG (CG 69) as the Operations Intelligence Division Officer and Navigator, in USS HARRY S TRUMAN (CVN 75) as a Reactor Mechanical Division Officer, in USS REUBEN JAMES (FFG 57) as the Operations Officer, again in USS HARRY S TRUMAN (CVN 75) as the Reactor Electrical Assistant, in USS KAUFFMAN (FFG 59) as Executive Officer and Commanding Officer, as Executive Officer in USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65) and as Reactor Officer in USS GEORGE H.W. BUSH (CVN 77).  He is currently assigned as the Commanding Officer of USS HERSHEL “WOODY” WILLIAMS (ESB 4) Gold Crew.

Ashore, he has completed assignments as Shift Engineer, Maintenance Officer and Material Officer in Moored Training Ship 626 at the Naval Nuclear Power Training Unit, Charleston, SC, a Global War on Terrorism Support Assignment as a USF-I/ITAM-Army Senior Military Advisor with General Officer advisees in both the Iraqi Army and the Kurdistan Regional Government and as a Battle Watch Captain at the Fleet Forces Command Maritime Operations Center.

His awards include the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, and various other campaign and service awards.
