Master Chief Smith currently serves as Command Master Chief onboard USS Kearsarge (LHD 3). He is a native of Texas who enlisted on December 21, 1992. He completed basic training at Recruit Training Command and Seamanship Apprentice School at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois.

Smith’s previous duty stations include:  USS Virginia (CGN 38) in Norfolk, Virginia; USS Ashland (LSD 48), Little Creek, Virginia; Naval Reserve Center, New Orleans, Louisiana; Fire Controlman “A” School, Service School Command, Great Lakes, Illinois; USS John F. Kennedy (CV 67), Mayport, Florida; Training Support Center, Great Lakes, Illinois; USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69), Norfolk, Virginia; Afloat Training Group, Norfolk, Virginia; USS George H. W. Bush (CVN 77), Norfolk, Virginia; USS Tortuga (LSD 46), Norfolk, VA.

His duties have included Command Master Chief, Boatswain Mate, Fire Controlman, Combat Systems Maintenance Manager (CSMM), Navy Region Mid-west Command Career Counselor, Command Maintenance and Material Manager (3MC), Instructor, and Command Equal Opportunity Manager.

Smith’s education and qualifications include Associates of Science for Electro-mechanical Engineering from Excelsior College, United States Senior Enlisted Academy Class 137, and CMC/COB Ethics Course Class 200070, Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist, Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist, Enlisted Information Warfare Specialist, Master Training Specialist, and Afloat Training Specialist. 

His personal awards include; Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (five awards), Good Conduct Service Medal (eight awards) and various unit and campaign awards.
