CDR Fiona Halbritter is a native of Huntsville, Alabama.  She attended Vanderbilt University through the Reserve Officer Training Corps program.  She graduated (B.A. in Mathematics) and was commissioned in 1999.

CDR Halbritter’s division officer tours were in USS TORTUGA (LSD 46) as the 2nd Deck Division Officer and in USS MOUNT WHITNEY (LCC 20) as the Assistant Operations Officer. 

Following her division officer tours, CDR Halbritter served as a division lead and instructor at the Center for Surface Combat Systems (CSCS) detachment at Dam Neck, VA.  After completion of Department Head School, she reported to USS KEARSARGE (LHD 3) as the Combat Systems Officer, fleeting up as the Training Officer during the last 7 months of her tour.  Her second department head tour was as Operations Officer for Commander Amphibious Squadron 2 / BATAAN Strike Group.

In 2009, CDR Halbritter earned a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Marine Corps Command and Staff College in Quantico, VA.  She then served in Current Operations at Commander, Second Fleet.  After Second Fleet’s disestablishment in 2011, she served as a Fleet Watch Officer for US Fleet Forces Command.  Prior to her Command tour, CDR Halbritter served as a Doctrine Analyst at the Joint Staff, J-7 in Suffolk, VA.

CDR Halbritter served as the Executive Officer for USS GUSTON HALL (LSD 44).  She went on to command USS GUNSTON HALL (LSD 44) from March 2017 to September 2018 leading the ship to complete a 30 month maintenance availability, basic and integrated phase training, INSURV, and a three month SOUTHCOM deployment. 

Following her Command tour, CDR Halbritter joined Carrier Strike Group Four as the Deputy N5, Amphibious Warfare Syndicate lead and Deputy Red Cell commander.  In March 2021, she joined the Amphibious Squadron Six team as the Chief Staff Officer.
