Master Chief Thomason enlisted in the Navy in May 2001. He completed Recruit Training and Hospital Corpsman (HM) “A” School in Great Lakes, Illinois. Upon graduation from HM “A” School, he reported to Naval Hospital Cherry Point, North Carolina, where he served as a General Duty Corpsman and Emergency Medical Technician.

Follow-on assignments include: Leading Petty Officer and Departmental 3MC aboard USS CARNEY (DDG 64); Instructor at Naval Hospital Corps School Great Lakes, IL; Senior Enlisted Leader (SEL) in 2nd Medical Battalion, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, where he deployed to Helmand Province, Afghanistan; SEL in U.S. Naval Hospital Naples, Italy; and Lead HM Enlisted Community Manager and Technical Advisor in BUPERS-3.

He was selected into the Command Senior Enlisted Leader Program in February 2018, and served as the Command Master Chief (CMC) of USS MITSCHER (DDG 57) from August 2018 to November 2020. He reported to USS NEW YORK (LPD 21) in November 2020, where he currently serves as the CMC.

Master Chief Thomason is a graduate of the U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 170 Blue) and Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat Course (Class 18120). He is designated as an Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist, Enlisted Fleet Marine Force Warfare Specialist, and Master Training Specialist. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Healthcare Management, and was selected as the 2007 Bureau of Medicine and Surgery and Vice Chief of Naval Operations Shore Activities Sailor of the Year.

His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and various unit and service awards.
