Senior Chief Operational Specialist (SW/AW) Lamont Underwood is a native of Chicago, Illinois. He reported to Recruit Training Command Great Lakes in July 2000.
In December 2000, Underwood reported to USS Mobile Bay (CG 53) San Diego, California for duty. While onboard the Mobile Bay he became an Air Intercept Controller and Combat Information Center Watch Supervisor and was promoted to Second Class Petty Officer.
In October 2005 he reported to Air Test and Evaluation Squadron 30 in Point Mugu California where he also did an Individual Augmentee tour to Camp Bucca Joint Operations Base, Iraq for detainee operations. In October 2009 he reported to USS Princeton (CG 59) where he qualified as an Anti-Air Warfare Coordinator, Surface/Sub Surface Warfare Coordinator and Antiterrorism Tactical Watch Officer where he was promoted to First Class Petty Officer and then Chief Petty Officer.
In October 2012 he reported to Tactical Air Control Squadron 11 as a Level Four Air Intercept Controller Supervisor, where he deployed on USS Boxer (LHD 4) and qualified as a Tactical Air Control Center Watch Officer.
In October 2014 he reported to Fleet Anti-Air Warfare Training Center where he earned both his instructor and Master Training Specialist qualification while serving as the Department Leading Chief Petty Officer for Foreign Military Sales. He was promoted to Senior Chief Petty Officer in June 2017.
In February 2018 Underwood reported to Tactical Air Control Squadron 22 and led a deployed detachment onboard USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7). He assumed the duties as Senior Enlisted Leader in September 2020.
Underwood has been awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3 awards), Army Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3 awards), and several personal and unit awards.
