Master Chief Petty Officer William Blalock hails from Fort Gaines, Georgia. After graduating from Early County High School in Blakely, Georgia, in May 1999, he enlisted in the Navy. He reported to Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois to complete basic training that November. Following completion of recruit training, he attended EM “A” School also in Great Lakes, Illinois.
His first sea duty assignment was USS SHREVEPORT LPD-12 from 2000-2003. During which time, he was Command Advanced to Second Class Petty Officer. From 2003 to 2006, he served at Southeast Regional Maintenance Center, Mayport, FL where he was advanced to First Class Petty Officer. He then transferred to USS BLUE RIDGE LCC-19 in Yokosuka, JP from 2006 to 2010. He was selected to Chief Petty Officer in September 2008. From 2010 to 2012 he was stationed onboard USS PHILLIPINE SEA CG-58 as the E-Division and Engineering Departmental LCPO. Following her, he transferred to Southeast Regional Calibration Center, NAS Jacksonville FL from 2012 to 2014 and served as the Maintenance Master Chief Petty Officer and Senior Enlisted Leader. Additionally, he was advanced to Senior Chief Petty Officer and volunteered to curtail shore duty one year early to return to sea. After leaving SERCC he reported onboard USS JOHN PAUL JONES DDG-53 to fulfill the duties as the 3MC. From 2014 to 2017, he held the duties of the 3MC and EX Departmental Leading Chief Petty Officer. He was promoted to Master Chief Petty Officer in 2016. In the spring of 2017, he was honorably selected for the Command Master Chief program and served as interim Command Master Chief of the USS JOHN PAUL JONES DDG-53. Upon completion of the CMC/COB course in Newport, RI, Master Chief Blalock reported to the USS HOPPER DDG-70 as the Command Master Chief from June 2017 to May 2019. In May 2019, he assumed duties as the Command Master Chief of the USS OAK HILL LSD-51. He is also a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy, Class 191.
His personal awards include a Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Commendation Medal (4 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (4 awards), Good Conduct Award (Bronze Star in Lieu of Fifth Award), and Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal (2 awards), National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal and numerous unit service and campaign awards.
