Capt. Steven Bellack graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1995 and was designated a Naval Aviator in 1997. He reported to VFA-125 at NAS Lemoore, California, for initial F-18 flight training and was subsequently assigned to the VFA-147 Argonauts for his first operational fleet tour. Capt. Bellack made one deployment with VFA-147, aboard USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) in 2000, participating in Operation SOUTHERN WATCH. In November 2001, Captain Bellack reported to VFA-106 at NAS Oceana, Virginia, as an F/A-18 instructor pilot and served as Assistant Operations Officer.
In August 2004, Capt. Bellack was assigned as Carrier Air Wing Landing Signals Officer (CAG LSO) at Carrier Air Wing SEVEN (CVW-7). In January 2006, Capt. Bellack subsequently reported to VFA-97 Warhawks at NAS Lemmore, CA for an operational department head tour. He deployed twice with VFA-97 in support of the USMC’s Unit Deployment Program (UDP) to MCAS Iwakuni, Japan, participating in joint, multi-national exercises in Okinawa, Guam, South Korea, Singapore, and Australia. Following his tour at VFA-97, Capt. Bellack was a Plans Officer with NATO Maritime Component Command, in Naples, Italy from August 2008 to September 2010.
After refresher flight training at VFA-106, Capt. Bellack reported to the Strike Fighter Weapons School, Atlantic in November 2010, serving first as Executive Officer then as Commanding Officer. In October 2013, Capt. Bellack reported aboard USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) to serve as the Air Officer. He deployed once in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. From October 2015 to February 2019, Capt. Bellack was at U.S. Fleet Forces Command as the Joint National Training Capabilities (JNTC) Program Manager for a year, and stepped up to the N71 Training, Execution, and Certification Branch Head.
Capt. Bellack has accumulated over 2,700 flight hours and 350 carrier arrested landings in the F/A-18. His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, three Meritorious Service Medals, three Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medals, one Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medals, and various campaign and unit awards.
