Master Chief Petty Officer Jonathan D. Purvis

Command Master Chief USS Fort McHenry (LSD 43)

Master Chief Purvis is a native of Ohio and a 1996 graduate of High School in California. He attended Recruit Training at RTC Great Lakes in 1997. After completing basic training, Master Chief Purvis attended HT “A” school and General Maintenance Welder “C” School (NEC 4954) at NTC Great Lakes. 

His first duty station was the USS Constellation (CV-64) in San Diego CA. He completed a four-year tour aboard during which time he was awarded both Surface and Aviation Warfare Specialist, and attended Advanced Welder “C” School (NEC 4955). Next, he was stationed aboard the USS Coronado (AGF-11) in Point Loma, CA. From there he was stationed at South West Regional Maintenance Center (SWRMC) and was the Assistant Family Advocacy Program representative. After this tour he went back to sea and completed a two-year tour onboard USS Peleliu (LHA-5) assigned as the Leading Petty Officer of the HT shop. His next duty station he went back to SWRMC and was assigned as LPO of R-1 Division at the Submarine Repair Facility again in Point Loma CA, and when advanced to Chief Petty officer, he was assigned duties as a Ship Superintendent. Upon transfer, he attended 3M Coordinator School (NEC 9517) in route to USS Stout (DDG-55) home ported in Norfolk VA. From there he was assigned onboard the submarine tender USS Emory S. Land (AS-39) stationed in Diego Garcia as the R-1 Division LCPO, and then Naval Base San Diego where he was assigned as the Port Operation’s DLCPO. His last duty stationed he was assigned to Patrol Coastal Squadron (PCRON) One in Bahrain as the CMC. He holds five Department of Labor Journeyman Licenses, four in the welding field and the fifth in firefighting.

Master Chief is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy (ADC class 198/Gold), Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat Course (Class 162/NEC 9578) and is currently the Command Master Chief stationed onboard the USS Fort McHenry (LSD-43).

Purvis’s awards include two Meritorious Service Medal, two Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, four Navy and Marine Corps Achievement medals, and various unit and campaign awards.
