Command Master Chief Christopher D. Farrar is a native of Syracuse, New York. He received an associate degree in electronics technology from Excelsior College in 2006.

Farrar’s operational assignments include his initial tour in 1998 as an electronics technician aboard USS Gary (FFG 51) in which the crew conducted a hull swap to USS Thach (FFG 43) in 2001. He was attached to Naval Special Warfare Special Reconnaissance Team (NSW SRT) 2 from 2007-2011, deploying multiple times in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). In 2011 Farrar reported to USS Anzio (CG 68), serving as the combat systems department chief and in 2014 began serving as the command senior chief for Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) Crew 206. He went on to become the command master chief aboard USS Lassen (DDG 82) from 2017-2019.

His shore assignments include being selected for the White House Communication Agency from 2002-2006 and serving as the Naval Weapons Station Yorktown, Virginia installation command master chief from 2019-2021.

Farrar is qualified as an enlisted surface warfare specialist, enlisted expeditionary warfare specialist and enlisted aviation warfare specialist. His decorations include the Presidential Service Badge, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3 awards), Army Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3 awards), Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal and various other personal, unit and campaign awards.
