Command Master Chief Larae W. Baker is a native of Jacksonville, Florida and enlisted in the United States Navy in December 1994. She is a 2011 graduate of Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, with a Bachelor of Science in Work Force Education.

Baker's operational assignments include her initial tour from 1995-1996 as a storeroom storekeeper aboard USS YELLOWSTONE (AD 41); underway replenishment coordinator from 1996-1999 aboard USNS NIAGARA FALLS (TAFS 3), where she deployed to U.S. 5th Fleet in support of Operation SOUTHERN WATCH; stock control leading petty officer and financial storekeeper from 2002-2005 aboard USS LASALLE (AGF 3), where she participated in Operations ENDURING FREEDOM and IRAQI FREEDOM; material control leading petty officer, individual material readiness list (IMRL) and metrology and calibration (METCAL) manager from 2005-2008 with the Tridents of Helicopter Antisubmarine Squadron Three (HS-3), where she deployed on board USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71) in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM; supply department leading chief petty officer, stock control and retail services leading chief petty officer from 2011-2014 aboard USS CHAFEE (DDG 90), where she participated in Rim of the Pacific Exercise (RIMPAC) 2012; and command master chief from 2016-2019 aboard USS Gravely (DDG 107), where she deployed to the U.S. 6th Fleet as the Standing NATO Maritime Group One (SNMG-1) Flag Ship in support of NATO partnerships.

Her shore assignments include serving as a supply clerk and government commercial purchase card (GCPC) holder from 1999-2002 at Marine Corps Air Station, Beaufort, South Carolina; stock control and HAZMAT trainer and assessor from 2008-2011 at Afloat Training Group Mayport, Florida; and Navy Supply Fleet Logistics Center Jacksonville (FLCJ) command senior enlisted leader as well as the FLCJ Southeast Regional Maintenance Center (SERMC) Detachment department leading chief petty officer from 2014-2016.

Baker has earned her Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist, Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist, Afloat Training Specialist, and Master Training Specialist designations. Her decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards) and various other personal, unit and campaign awards.
