Capt. Derek R. Fix

CAPT Derek “T-Bone” Fix is a native of Cleveland, Ohio, and a 1997 distinguished graduate of the Virginia Military Institute, where he received his commission through NROTC. He received his “Wings of Gold” as a Naval Flight Officer at VAW-120 in May 1999.

His at sea assignments include VAW-126 Seahawks onboard USS HARRY S TRUMAN (CVN 75) where he served as NFO Training Officer and Avionics Division Officer; CVW-17 onboard USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73) where he served as Air Warfare Officer; and VAW-123 Screwtops onboard USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65) for his department head tour where he served as Safety, Administrative, and Operations Officer; and USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN 72) where he served as Operations Officer.

His shore assignments include VAW-120 Greyhawks where he served as Head Schedules Officer, NFO Model Manager, and AIC Phase Head; the Joint Planning Support Element of the Joint Enabling Capabilities Command where he served as a Joint Operational Planner; U.S. Fleet Forces Command as Battle Watch Captain; and Assistant Professor at Joint Forces Staff College.

CAPT Fix commanded the “Giant Killers” of Fleet Area Control and Surveillance Facility Virginia Capes (FACSFAC VACAPES) from 2016-2017.

He is a 2008 graduate of the Naval War College where he received a Master’s Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies. He also completed JPME II at the Joint Forces Staff College in 2011.

He has accumulated over 2,000 flight hours and 400 arrested landings in the E-2C Hawkeye Group 0, Group II, and Hawkeye 2000 aircraft.
